A good hand sanitizer has enough of the right alcohol, a complete label and a size that suits where it is used. We supply our own SANITIZER.PK sanitizer as liquid and gel, from personal bottles to 5-litre refill packs for offices, schools and clinics.

- Look for at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropyl alcohol by volume, printed on the label.
- The label should show contents with percentages, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates and the manufacturer's name, as PSQCA requires under PS 5453.
- Small bottles suit pockets and bags; 500 ml pump bottles suit desks and counters; 5-litre packs refill dispensers at the lowest cost per use.
- Alcohol sanitizer is flammable until dry. Store it below 30°C, out of direct sun.

Gel or liquid sanitizer?
Both work equally well when the alcohol content is right. The difference is practical. Liquid spreads and dries quickly and suits spray bottles and most dispensers. Gel drips less, is easier to apply to children's hands and travels better in a bag.

What to check on any sanitizer label
- Active ingredient: ethanol (ethyl alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol), with the percentage by volume (v/v).
- Batch number and manufacturing and expiry dates.
- Manufacturer or distributor name and address.
- Warnings: flammable, for external use only, keep away from children's reach and eyes.
- Never buy a product that lists methanol (methyl alcohol). It is toxic through the skin and if swallowed.

Safe storage in Pakistani summers
Alcohol-based sanitizer is flammable until it has fully dried. Keep stock in a cool, shaded store below 30°C, away from stoves, generators, heaters and smoking areas. Do not leave bottles on a car dashboard or in a parked car in summer, and close caps tightly so the alcohol does not evaporate and weaken the product.
Frequently asked questions
How long does hand sanitizer last?
Use it before the expiry date printed on the label, usually two to three years from manufacture for sealed bottles. Once opened and exposed to heat, alcohol slowly evaporates, so keep caps closed and use opened bottles within a few months.
Does sanitizer kill 99.9% of germs?
Laboratory claims like 99.9% are measured on specific test organisms. Alcohol sanitizer works well against most bacteria and many viruses, but less well against some, such as norovirus and bacterial spores, and it does not clean dirt or grease. Wash with soap and water when you can.
