Hand hygiene supplies for schools
In schools, handwashing with soap is the foundation and sanitizer fills the gaps where there is no sink. Sanitizer for young children should be supervised and kept out of reach. We supply schools with sanitizer refills, dispensers, gloves for canteen and cleaning staff, and masks for the sick room.
At a glance
- Soap and water before lunch and after the toilet.
- Sanitizer at classroom doors, the gate and in school vans, used under supervision.
- Mount dispensers at adult height for younger classes; teachers dispense.
- Plan quantities per term from pupil numbers.
What a school needs
| Area | Supplies |
|---|---|
| Gate or reception | Dispenser, masks for visitors and unwell pupils |
| Classrooms | Dispenser by the door or a teacher-held bottle for young classes |
| Washrooms | Liquid soap, paper towels or clean towels, reliable water |
| Canteen | Handwashing station; gloves for food staff |
| Sick room | Masks, gloves, sanitizer, lidded bin |
| School vans | A small bottle kept by the driver or attendant |
Keeping sanitizer safe around children
- Children under six use sanitizer only with an adult.
- Keep refill packs locked away, never in classrooms.
- Teach pupils to rub until dry and keep hands away from eyes and mouth.
- If a child swallows sanitizer, take them to the nearest emergency department with the bottle.
Estimating a term's use
Multiply pupils and staff by uses per day by 2.5 ml. For 400 people using sanitizer twice a day, that is about 2 litres a day, or roughly 120 litres for a 60-day term. Supervised use and handwashing before meals bring this down.
Frequently asked questions
Is sanitizer better than handwashing for pupils?
No. Handwashing with soap is better, especially before eating and after the toilet. Sanitizer is for times without a sink.
What should be in the school sick room?
Masks, disposable gloves, sanitizer, tissues, a lidded bin and a clear plan for calling parents.
